Leon Balogun has NOT been ruled out of Sunday’s trip to Paisley after Steven Gerrard confirmed he’s only a doubt at this point and the pull he felt on his hamstring may not be as serious as feared.

The Nigerian international, in such sparkling form this season, was a potentially huge loss last night given the only other partners for Connor Goldson are Calvin Bassey or Jack Simpson, and the ex-Werder man is a huge upgrade in central defence over both.

But Gerrard revealed he could still make it, and with two days to go, it’s rated 50/50 as to his chances.

It’s certainly a far far better prognosis than ‘unlikely’ or ‘definitely out’ and could mean Rangers go into the difficult November/December period with Balogun remaining fit and available, which could make all the difference.

Jack Simpson has struggled to impress and was of course unavailable last night having been excluded from the UEL squad, but has barely featured domestically either, while Bassey does not like CB at all and struggled himself when used v Prague there.

So having Balogun fit for this weekend would be excellent.

Hopefully we do.
