Ibrox Noise was recently alerted to a bewildering stat hosted on the BBC site, which provided match ratings for all players on both sides in the match v Hibs.

These ratings are fan voted, and naturally can be voted by any fan of any club, but the results for Sunday’s clash were absolutely shocking.

According to this poll, the player widely regarded by fans on social network as the star performer, John Lundstram, was voted by a distance the worst on the pitch of both teams, with a diabolical 4.18 out of 10.

We are trying to figure this one out.

Roofe was by a distance the best, at 7.66, while the underwhelming Steven Davis was second at 6.13, but it was Lundstram’s bizarre numbers of well below 5, apparently voted for by Rangers fans which completely perplexes us.

Now there’s unlikely to be a ‘conspiracy’ here, because all players would be as vulnerable as others to such voting, so we don’t really have an answer as to why Lundstram would be bottom.

It was suggested Rangers fans don’t yet believe in him to the extent it appears, and that may be true, but doesn’t account for the simple fact that he was extremely impressive during this 90 minutes.

Strange one. Answers on a postcard.

  1. I think there is 2 reasons to this. One is that as you said anyone can rate the players. It won’t be just rangers fans. Hibs fans could quite possibly be on there rating our players 1 (or bored septic fans. We all know how the know more about Rangers than our own fans)

The other thing could be lundstrum isn’t a pretty player. He won’t often produce fancy skills, take on players or produce that killer pass. I think sometimes fans don’t appreciate what he brings to the team. He loves a battle, he does the dirty work very well, he breaks up play and from what I’ve seen he is a very good passer of the ball. Defensive minded midfielders tend not to be appreciated as much.

    • I agree to a certain extent with you, he does all the “dirty” work as you say, and he’s fairly new. Although he’s had a slow start so he’s not yet a fan favourite. But Jack does very much the same thing and he is very highly thought of. He will settle quickly and hopefully become a fan fave sooner rather than later. Bit the part I’m not sure I agree fully, is the killer pass or skillful moves. He played a couple of decent through balls against Hibs and made a couple of really good touches. Just the communication let’s him down at times, that will come with playing time and getting used to the players surrounding him. He’ll come good and be worth every penny of the £10 million that we didn’t pay for him

  2. The BBC are awful , they are almost in tears each time Rangers win and whining over Celtic to be champions. The same BBC that never ask the right questions of the stinking neds in the snp. Nothing unusual here business as usual. I dont pay the bbc licence never have since they are woke morons.
