As regulars to our social media platforms will have seen, Walter Smith was joyously present at the recent Emmie Smillie Charity Foundation Legends Golf day, which saw dozens of celebs from sport and TV turn out to help cancer victims.

Ibrox Noise sources informed us as early as July that Walter would be there, but in respect of the man’s privacy and recovery we decided not to go public with that one, and we were delighted to see him up and about among friends.

Of course, no one can deny the man has been through it, health-wise, and isn’t looking maybe quite as strong and stocky as typical Walter would, but he’s in more than one piece and was even cracking a grin or two.

That mischievous Walter plotting smile was there and we were delighted to see it back.

His health details have rightly been kept under wraps, and we’re not going to change that, but we were just thrilled he felt well enough to not only attend, but enjoy.

It was an occasion which transcended football differences as Neil Lennon and Charlie Nicholas, not to mention dear friend of Walter Sir Alex was there too, and in the end was a success.

But for Rangers fans, it was the sight of Walter on two feet that inspired the most, and while we’ve seen him look stronger than he currently does, he’ll get there.

An absolute legend of the club, Walter is in all of our hearts, and we look forward to the day we see him at Ibrox again, in any capacity.

Whether that is indeed honouring Stevie’s dream and having the man there for the flag unfurl is unknown for now, but we can hope.

  1. It was good to see the gaffer out and about, but he looks really unwell. I like the rest of the Rangers family wish him all the very best for the future.

  2. Looking much better in the more recent photo with his grandson, I was shocked when I saw the previous photo of him at the golf tournament as he looked very frail hopefully he is getting stronger every day
