The truth behind Borna Barisic’s shock Ibrox goodbye
Borna Barisic says goodbye? Not really....

There really was a bit of mystery over Borna Barisic this summer. Following the Old Firm win, the Croat seemed to say goodbye, in an emotional greet to the crowd at the end of the match which implied all sorts.

Kris Boyd seemed to think it was a farewell, and before long reports claiming he was joining Roma for £12M surfaced.

As it turned out, this was a complete fabrication. So we then ask just why did Barisic have that emotional ending to the colossal win?

Some fans thought the occasion just got the better of him and he was overwhelmed. It turns out those fans are more correct than they realise.

Borna Barisic was overwhelmed because not only had he provided a winning assist in an Old Firm at Ibrox for the first time, but it was also a maiden event for something else:

The first time Barisic had experienced an Old Firm win in front of a packed Ibrox.

His first two seasons at Ibrox he hadn’t played in a single Rangers win v Celtic on our own patch – yes, on theirs, including two incredible assists, but none at ours.

Then Covid hit, Rangers dominated, and won the lot, but obviously in front of empty stands.

August 29th 2021 was the first time Borna Barisic had won an Old Firm in front of fans at Ibrox, and for such a big player who’d been such a huge part of the Steven Gerrard era, it was a LONG time coming.

3 years in the making.

We were all emotional after that one, but it was a first for Barisic.

No wonder it got to him.
