So the chances are that Rangers will meet an old friend tomorrow when Jason Cummings likely lines up at Dens in place of Leigh Griffiths.

The old Rangers striker, who thrived for Hibs so much in the Championship when facing the Famous, didn’t have the absolute best time in Govan, featuring so little, but he was gagging at the bit to get more playing time, and his final record of 6 goals in precious few minutes dotted around 18 appearances wasn’t actually that bad.

His career since Ibrox? Underwhelming. 8 in 29 for Peterborough, 10 in 48 for Shrewsbury.

But for Dundee? 13 in 28 which is up there with his Hibs record. And of course, his Hibs record was all about what he did in the Championship.

His SPL record? 3 in 32. Not spectacular.

We did like Cummings, but he’s another Scott Allan – a player with a lot of potential at a young age but who his career just didn’t work out for, and in the end he’s more or less where he should be.

He loved us, he absolutely loved being a Ranger, and he’d probably agree without a shadow of a doubt his Ibrox days were his best, even if he didn’t play as much as he’d want.

He gets to line up tomorrow in all probability for McPake’s struggling home side to face Rangers for the first time since he used to have all that joy for Hibs against us, and if there’s one player out there desperate to prove Stevie G was wrong to let him go, it’s Cummings.

Truthfully, he’s not good enough – his subsequent career demonstrates that. But who’d bet against Cummings having a stormer and bagging a goal or two tomorrow.

Especially with the crowd behind him.

He always was a Joker.
