Alfredo Morelos has confirmed his ongoing desire to leave Rangers, but insists that until he gets his move, he’s happy with life at Ibrox.

Speaking from a leading Colombian radio station, Morelos said:

“You heard a lot about my departure, that Porto or several teams made a proposal, but did not reach an agreement with Rangers, so my stay continues and I feel happy; I started in the best way, scoring goals and what is to come, it’s important to me. An agreement has not been reached with the teams, I am calm and I am a young player, I hope that the opportunity to leave will be given soon. Here at Rangers I have already been champion, I have made history and we hope it will happen and the opportunity to work out in the best way. Each player wants to improve each day and be in a better league, in a more watched league. This league has taught me important things in my career. I started the best way, I scored many goals and may a big step be taken soon.”

So, after the toing and froing, Morelos really did speak to Porto and they were not the only side he was in discussions with.

His best mate Daniel Candeias wasn’t lying when he said Morelos wanted Porto and vice versa, but in the end the Dragao giants couldn’t plump up a deal with Rangers so the ex-HJK man remains.

And he’s happy to.

But the fact is Morelos, from his own mouth, still wants to leave. As usual, nothing has changed. But unless a suitor comes in with the kind of offer the club seeks, he will not be leaving.

It does confirm one thing – Morelos is unlikely to sign any more deals at Ibrox, and at worst, will let his contract, currently with two years on it, run down to its expiry.

He seeks football in a better league, and we can’t blame him for that. But never before have we known a player this vocal about his ambitions to leave Rangers.

Ever since around January 2018.

But for now he’s ours, and unless Porto offer £20M in January, it won’t change.
