As we alluded to earlier, Rangers top the table clear, despite having a poor start to the season going by last term’s lofty standards.

But the biggest laugh is this Rangers doing it having spent absolutely nothing in the transfer window, while Celtic launched £20M into the transfer market and trail Rangers by 3 points!

For all the big-money rebuild Celtic have put into play, for all the little momentum they seemed to gather around the time of their two 6-goal wins a while back, it’s cheap and cheerfully skint Rangers who top the table over big-spending Celtic.

In fact, we can’t ever recall a single window in the last 20 years of the Old Firm in which either side has spent that much. £20M.

That’s only a little shy of what Steven Gerrard has spent in total over his 3+ years at Ibrox.

And Celtic have splurged it out on a bunch of halfwits and a Japanese crock?!

Now, we know the season is young, and there’s a long way to go, but for them to have dropped 6 points and Rangers to be top and them 5th is a damning indictment of bad spending, planning, and panic buying, not to mention a pretty hopeless managerial appointment.

In truth Stavros seems a decent enough guy, but totally out of his depth and at the wrong club entirely – which is great news for Rangers fans.

He’s spunked £20M on a side who sit 3 points adrift of Rangers and 2 of Hibs and Hearts. Oh and one behind Motherwell too…

While we’re not making any conclusions on this, we will say it’s a bit of a laugh, isn’t it?

  2. Early days. We’ve got our noses in front but won’t stay there long if performances don’t pick up. I think we are still 3-4 weeks away from getting near to our best. I was hoping the Old Firm victory would kick start us but the stupid never ending international break put paid to that.
