A lot is being said about Fashion Sakala’s absence from tonight’s UEL squad to face Armenian minnows Alashkert. The Zambian has been a strange signing, plucked curiously from Belgium’s Oostende with an admittedly decent record, for free, but not quite settling into life at Ibrox too well and word is he has major injury issues consigning him to the sidelines.
We can’t confirm the truth or otherwise of that, but he’s not featured much at all since we signed him and has started just the one match v Livi, being mostly absent since then bar a cameo or two.
He seems a genuinely decent guy, but there are serious questions being now asked about his fitness, on the back of the worries about Nnambi Ofoborh – only one of Rangers’ summer signings is actually definitely fit and available, in the form of John Lundstram.
And with Sakala’s absence tonight it does make us wonder how serious his issues actually are and why Rangers are having such bad luck/form with this summer window.
We’ve not even touched on the bizarre Juan AlegrÃa saga which is supposedly FINALLY reaching its end now, with the lad reportedly passing a medical, while another midfielder is about to be confirmed as signing up too.
Yes, folks, it’s all rather going on at the moment….
