Rangers have been hit with a hammer blow after it was confirmed star performers Ianis Hagi and Scott Wright are major doubts for this afternoon’s clash with Ross County following knocks against Alashkert.
The attackers have been massive bright spots this season amidst some troubling performances from others, and their absences, along with Ryan Kent’s horrendous form, makes for significant concerns regards attacking options.
With the possibility of both being out, aside the sub-par Kent, Stevie’s options up front reduce to Roofe, Morelos and Itten, given Fashion Sakala is also unavailable.
Jermain Defoe may well be on the bench for this one and there are literally no other attackers available at all for the manager to call upon.
Ross County are not to be sniffed at, no one is to be sniffed at this season, and with Rangers potentially only having four forwards, it’s far from ideal.
Of course, if Kent finds form and Roofe starts on the right with Morelos through the middle, it doesn’t seem so bad, but football isn’t played on paper. And the thin bench options are concerning.
Nnambi Ofoborh and Ryan Jack remain unavailable, with Niko Katic out of favour/unfit/whatever you define him as, and so Rangers’ options overall to face County aren’t the best.
We hope Hagi and Wright recover quickly.
I think any team would be happy to see their attacking options “reduced” to Roofe, Morelos, Itten, Defoe and Kent. Just get on with it and worry about those that are there than those that aren’t. Go with a good attitude and work ethic and we’ll win comfortably. Let’s start turning things around today!
