Stevie confirms Rangers signing ‘imminent’…

Steven Gerrard has confirmed Rangers are close to signing a midfielder, believed to be Huddersfield’s Juninho Bacuna.

The 24 year old, with a wealth of experience in England’s Championship and Holland’s Eredivisie, is out of contract next summer and his fee is not thought to be excessive, and he is considered a desperately-needed addition to midfield ranks straining a little thanks to the loss of two players in Ryan Jack and Nnamdi Oboforh.

Gerrard today has admitted a signing in that area is very close and set to be announced inside 48 hours, but there’s also a slim chance it could be the mega-coup of securing Heerenveen’s Joey Veerman.

Either way, as Gerrard said, last season the squad was stretched thin in that area towards the end of the campaign, with four players working hard as dogs to cover a tonne of absences.

Gerrard is keen to be more solid in that area this campaign, and believes this new body will help strengthen the midfield with just Steven Davis (aging), John Lundstram (not settled yet), Scott Arfield (aging and injury issues), Glen Kamara (potential sale) and Joe Aribo currently available otherwise. Making it 6 is a bit more manageable and there will hopefully be returns too over the season for the other pair.

It will be Stevie’s fourth signing of the summer, on top of Lundstram, Fashion Sakala and Ofoborh, and with two weeks left, we hope maybe one or two more will still arrive.

Stay tuned!
