Rangers fans could be ready for a shock selection or two on Sunday after Gary McAllister admitted both Juninho Bacuna and Niko Katic come into contention for places v Celtic.

The Curaçao international and Croat respectively have very different Rangers stories, but with Celtic looming tomorrow, it’s been confirmed both are in Steven Gerrard’s thoughts for the match day squad.

Bacuna, a ‘Barry Ferguson’ kind of deep-lying playmaker or ‘regista’ as the Italians would say was suggested as being some considerable time off fitness, but G-Mac, unless speaking out of turn, has suggested the new boy has enough in his tank to be an option already, even if it’s only sitting on the sidelines.

Meanwhile Katic, who Gerrard stated needed minutes and the club was looking at a solution for him, surprisingly returns to the reckoning too, again, assuming the assistant coach wasn’t being a touch economical with the truth.

We’d imagine a place on the bench might be prudent there too because there’s less than zero chance he’d start over Balogun or Helander.

Rangers’ bench options are definitely set to be a tonne stronger for tomorrow, after arguably the weakest bench in the club’s history on Thursday, so there will be undoubtedly better personnel available.

We’ll see come an hour before kick off what role Katic and Bacuna have after all.
