There are claims today that Everton have hit Rangers with a stunning £5M bid for Nathan Patterson after new manager Rafa Benitez sought to shore up his rearguard options.

The 19-year old, just one appearance this season, is still unable to get a foothold in the first team and we don’t know if that will influence his decision, but of course there’s no word yet if this is a rejected bid or if it’s being considered by the club.

Fans are vocally frustrated with Steven Gerrard’s refusal to use the promising young RB in favour of stalwart first choice James Tavernier, and are equally as annoyed that the combination of the two the manager stated would be used, hasn’t.

And it would have to be said £5M would be a decent price for him.

We did suggest pre-season an option would be one of the two being sold, because as Stevie did cryptically say, you can’t have two players of that quality on the bench. Perhaps he was alluding to Patterson’s sale, because Tavernier is simply unsellable in the boss’s mind.

Either way, we would not object if Patterson left, because as much as we love him, he’s not getting a chance under this manager.

  1. Ironically I thought with Wright and Hagi doubtful for today and Kent out of form that we might see the promised Tavernier and Patterson combo today.

  2. I would prefer any bid for Tav instead of Paterson . But if true £5 million not to be sniffed at . Great opportunity for him too. Let’s hope he stays at Ibrox and takes the slot from an ineffective Tav now.
