Rangers are reportedly set to be busy in the transfer window over the next 24 hours after Borna Barisic was confirmed as having a medical in Rome ahead of his imminent £12M transfer to Italy, with Hibernian’s Josh Doig seemingly replacing him at Ibrox.

The 28-year old bowed out from his Rangers career with an assist, and while his form hadn’t been sparkling this calendar year, his previous peak at Ibrox will live long in the memory as he ascended to comfortably one of Britain’s finest LBs.

Roma have been after him for a long, long time, and had previously tried to nab the Croatian up for pennies, but it didn’t happen and they will now get him for close to market value.

Meanwhile, Hibs’ youngster Doig, 19, has been one of the most coveted stars of the SPL for some time, and Rangers are said to be interested in snapping him up ASAP as an instant replacement for Barisic.

Whether that means Doig will become Rangers’ number one LB remains to be seen, but it certainly gives manager Steven Gerrard two fine choices at LB and options for the long term given the ages of he and current first choice Calvin Bassey.

It’s all livening up a bit as the deadline approaches…

  1. I said in another post that we should be looking for more for Barisic but if we could get Doig for £4m we’d have a decent replacement and £8m in bank. Not bad business I suppose. Be interesting to see how Hibs play this. Will it be double the fee or on no account sell to Rangers.
