One of the stranger transfer stories emerged yesterday as former Rangers kid David Bates was linked with a bizarre move back to Ibrox.
Leaving for a shock move to Hamburg, Bates’ agent is a literal genius to get a very average defender a move to a massive club in Germany, and the deal was exposed a tad as Bates fell out of favour at the end of his first season, before loans to Sheffield Wednesday and Bruges went a bit stale too.
His name fairly vanished the past two years and suddenly has cropped up as a result of, inexplicably, French media making the claim that Rangers and Brentford are going head to head to get him for pennies.
Now, remember Pedro Caixinha gave Bates the chance and then the lad left as soon as his stock rose, with Steven Gerrard getting no real say on that one, so we’d have to say even if there was any truth in this one, this is not a player we’d welcome back.
He’s not good enough and he left the first chance he could get.
And at 24 his career has gone south.
It’s no wonder his agent is using our name to plug interest.
No thanks.
Not even a yesterday man. He wasn’t good enough for us when we weren’t good enough.
