Major summer Rangers boost as Morelos appears set to stay

It appears, unless there’s a major development in the next 8 days, that once again Alfredo Morelos is set to remain in Govan for at least another half year after yet again no bids were received for him and all the talk of his exit was media-generated.

Morelos, who applauded the crowd vividly on Sunday and colourfully honoured them after his goal, may well have had a change of heart in terms of the claims he wants to leave.

His performance on Sunday was hunger again, with the Colombian looking infinitely more energetic and working far harder for the team than he had v Alashkert midweek, and who knows what may have changed in the few days between but he looked 10x happier v County than he did v the Armenians.

But the most telling is the lack of bids this summer, with no concrete interest in his services received and all of it being paper talk.

It may just be Alfredo Morelos, in his own way, actually is happy in Scotland, and unless a mega £20M bid arrives in the next week, Rangers will still retain his services in this, his fourth year north of the border.

Let’s not forget that – for all the transfer talk, Alfredo Morelos is second only to Ryan Jack and James Tavernier for how long he’s actually been at Ibrox, and in Jack’s case it’s marginal.

Indeed, Morelos has been a Rangers player for four years now, which is easy to forget amidst all the speculation and media nonsense surrounding him.

He’s also signed several deals and the closest he came to leaving was agreeing terms with Lille, but even then, no one aside the media ever alleged he’d done that, all we got was Stevie admitting there was a bid but it wasn’t enough.

So, it looks, honestly, despite ITKs and the media thinking they know better, that Alfredo Morelos isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

He does want the PL, we know this, but so does every player and his desire to have that league is not more important than anyone else’s.

As long as Alfie keeps up the level of performance he had on Sunday, not a soul in blue will be unhappy to see him stay.
