With Rangers’ defence in a state of development, and uncertainty over the future of Niko Katic in the air not to mention the unconvincing start made by Jack Simpson, a promising and minimal cost defender from the same generation as Callum Hudson-Odoi, Jadon Sancho, Rhian Brewster, Angel Gomes, Jonathan Panzo, Marc Guehi, Ryan Sessegnon, Phil Foden and Morgan Gibbs-White could well be the solution in Swansea’s Joel Latibeaudiere.

The 21-year old stopper, highly rated and with Eredivisie and Championship appearances in his CV, has represented his country at youth level 20 times, and has become a mainstay at the Swans this season.

Mainly known for being a CB, he can also perform on the right of midfield, and his stats for a spell in Holland with Twente were very impressive indeed:

3 games, 1 goal, 1 assist, 5 tackles won per 90, 1.3 interceptions per 90, 2 clearances per 9, 4 aerials won per 90.

It’s definitely a fair hike up from the likes of Simpson and departed George Edmundson, and with just two years to go on his deal, Latibeaudiere would be a low-cost high quality squad addition who could grow into the club and raise his level.

He’s one who’s all about potential, and given he came from Man City’s youth academy he can clearly play more than a bit.

This one could be a right wee gem.
