A member of Borna Barisic’s family has reportedly come forward with information about reports he’s to join Roma, and announced all stories are false.

Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti has tonight printed the alleged truth about Barisic, and it appears claims of his imminent departure are some distance from fact.

“Borna Barišić is not going to Roma, that transfer is not even in its infancy, but our national team player is definitely interesting not only to many clubs but also to the media. Every piece of news with him, though inaccurate and unfounded in truth, is closely followed. Most important of all, however, is that he plays well for his club, Glasgow Rangers, and that his health serves him equally. And the evening after the Scottish derby with Celtic, in which he was assisted the goal for the win, he boarded a plane for Croatia carefree and was unencumbered by stories of his move from Scotland to Italy.”

So, there we now know there was absolute truth to his departure from Scotland on Sunday evening, but this outlet alleges it was a plane to Croatia’s international camp, and not to a medical in Italy.

If these words are accurate, Barisic is going nowhere. The source went on:

“Borna himself did not conduct talks, much less negotiations with anyone from Roma. Neither Rangers nor Roma did that, nor did any of his people take care of his career on Borna’s behalf. So the news of his departure to Roma is completely inaccurate, misinformation.”

This is all very interesting stuff, but the bit we’re still at a loss for is why he had such an emotional time of it at the end of the Old Firm in a way we’ve never seen before from the Croat.

A lot of fans are just saying he ‘gets it’, and yes he does, but it doesn’t explain why he picked the first Old Firm of the season to have such an emotional ‘farewell’ with the fans on his own.

Certainly an intriguing story and an interesting twist.

  1. I hope Barasic stays and all these rumours about him going to Italy are just that we need all our players to play for the jersey and get back to our winning ways we want to win everything this year and need players who want to be winners.
