As news is starting to filter through about the players missing, Ibrox Noise is intrigued by the absences.
Steven Gerrard, Michael Beale, James Tavernier, Calvin Bassey, Allan McGregor, Scott Wright, Jon McLaughlin, and Ryan Kent appear, thus far, to be the confirmed absences, with more potentially to be revealed in due course.
That’s right, Steven Gerrard is in there too, and there are unconfirmed reports adding Jermain Defoe and Jack Simpson to the list of isolators, albeit the former would not have been on the flight regardless.
Fashion Sakala is also said to be afflicted, but he’s injured anyway, John Lundstram isn’t among those isolating but is suspended, and lastly Kemar Roofe it appears is not afflicted but is also suspended for this one.
Which means Rangers are seriously down a lot of players and a manager for the next two fixtures.
For Alashkert the pool of choice just thinned dramatically:
McCrorie, Patterson, Goldson, Helander, Balogun, Barisic, Davis, Kamara, Aribo, Kelly, Arfield, Morelos, Itten, Hagi.
On the face of it it’s not actually that bad but the squad, unless we go into the ‘lower reaches’ pretty much ends with that lot. 14 players actually definitely available.
This could be the worst bench we’ve ever had. And it doesn’t get a lot better for Celtic, with just Roofe and Lundstram to return.
