Going by Steven Gerrard’s words this morning, it’s starting to look like Rangers’ transfer incomings may be done for the summer.

Unless, of course, sensational opportunities arise that we can’t say no to, the additions of John Lundstram and Fashion Sakala may be about our lot for the summer, with of course the sad blow of the indeterminate length of fellow new recruit Nnamdi Oboforh’s absence.

Would the current state be enough?

Lundstram and Sakala appear great additions, and we were clearly on record as saying talent of this calibre and value were required to fit us up in preparation for the Champions League and defending the league, so we’re certainly not unhappy with where we’re at.

There is just the nagging feeling one, maybe two more high-calibre additions are needed, and we suspect the manager feels the same way too.

Getting to the CL group stage is beyond critical – the riches on display if we do, dwarfing what they were when we were last there over a decade ago.

We’ll have to do it without Ryan Jack, whose absence could extend till September. He has yet another consultation in around 10 days after bad news from the last one, and while he’s in gentle training, till he gets that green light deep into August, he can’t play like his game needs him to. He’s also miles away from match fitness.

We do have Lundstram though, and that’s a huge boost.

So are we ready? We’d say ‘just about’. Defence looks not bad, fullback is strong as, midfield is pretty well fitted and attack is in a fairly decent place as well.

What we lack is a RW, but the Tavernier project may be a solution there, and otherwise it’s mostly Kemar Roofe who slots in.

But in general?

In general we’d like to wait till we’ve faced Malmö before we deduce if we need a further addition or two, but we know the club is looking anyway.

As things stand though, we’re in an ok place. But we cannot rest on our laurels – and if this club finds opportunities to improve, we must take them.

Let’s keep going.

  1. I still think we need another midfielder with the ability to create and retain the ball more. I also think that we need to keep looking for another Striker . Lets hope SG and Ross Wilson have a plan.
