It’s all gone very, very quiet again on Connor Goldson’s contract chat. After Stevie confirmed talks are ongoing and he just wanted to give the defender ‘space’, it had been rumoured not just in the press but by the club’s media channels that an announcement was imminent.

But a week later, nothing has happened and the best we’ve got to go on are Clickbait Insider updates from Alan Hutton mouthing his opinion off.

Gerrard revealed nothing about any contract updates in today’s presser and we’re now left wondering what the state of play on this infamous new contract actually is.

Official club commentator Clive Tyldesley did run with the story of the ‘rumour’ of the new deal, and of course a red top or two have made claims as well.

But we only ever reported the story as a rumour ourselves – we simply didn’t know if he’d signed or not.

And any announcement was projected to be made this week, but it’s all gone quiet again.

There had been accusations the tabloids didn’t have a clue and were literally guessing – going by the conspicuous silence we’re starting to wonder if indeed that is the case.

Mind you, tabloids making things up? That would be new…

Regardless, one month to go till the end of the window, and still nothing from the club about a new deal.

Of course, the player himself has spoken in glowing future terms about the club, but what else did we expect?

We’ll just have to wait, and see. And not try to guess.
