Reports are gathering that George Edmundson is to join Peterborough in a permanent deal that is allegedly to see Jonson Clarke-Harris move the other way.

The big defender, signed in the summer of 2019, never really secured any kind of momentum in Rangers’ first team, and in an Ibrox Noise straw poll recently, was the most picked defender of Rangers’ roster for fans to advocate leaving.

The 23-year old, once called Oldham’s best defender (till he left and his club chairman bitterly dismissed that notion and suggested new signing Frankie Kent was superior, of course) hasn’t quite made it at Rangers, despite impressing a lot of fans. Ultimately he’s seen as surplus and he’ll never make it in Govan.

Ironically though Frankie Kent? He’ll be Edmundson’s new CB partner at Peterborough if the deal goes through.

Rangers currently have 6 defenders, and Steven Gerrard wants to ship out two leaving four main selections. Well, we say four, it’s Goldson and a choice of three partners really, but ultimately four main CBs is a healthy number.

Niko Katic isn’t being rushed, but it does look like the final exit is between himself and Jack Simpson – Goldson’s deal remains ‘pending’, Filip Helander isn’t seen as going anywhere, Leon Balogun just signed a new deal.

As for Clarke-Harris, well he’s a potentially decent acquisition, and we’ll report on that one a bit later.
