Potential crisis as 6 key Gers men could miss out on CL

Rangers have been hit with something of a CL injury blow after Steven Gerrard was left sweating on the fitness of Ryan Kent and Borna Barisic.

With pre-season underway, both the left flank players have sustained niggling injury issues, and Kent is training alone at Auchenhowie trying to shake off the issue currently ailing him, while Barisic mostly missed all of Euro 2020 with a knock he picked up v Celtic.

It means Rangers suddenly have a mild crisis with the CL qualifiers just under a month away, if both Barisic and Kent are doubts or even more.

In Kent’s case Rangers do have options on the left, more than a few in fact, but in Barisic’s case just Calvin Bassey can replace him and that means a lack of quality distribution down the left.

It’s a bit of a hiccup, and at this point we sure hope Filip Helander’s issues are behind him too given he barely played any of Sweden’s run in the Euros either.

We are also definitely missing Kemar Roofe and Glen Kamara through suspension so Rangers’ options for later this month are a little worrying.

We also haven’t seen any of Ryan Jack, who is also continuing to recover from surgery and his place for the third qualifying round is up in the air at present.

Hopefully all of these will work out ok but at the moment, it’s a slightly concerning situation.

  1. We need Borna, Kent and Jacko back pronto if we want to stand a chance of qualifying if we get a remotely tough draw.
