If you Google Leigh Griffiths’ name, you won’t find much. Just a few stats and a bit of piffle about his new deal.
If you Google Alfredo Morelos or Billy Gilmour, you’ll find hundreds or even thousands of press attacks, from the Scottish press we mean, on everything about them.
Now, we’re treading very carefully over this story, because we won’t make allegations that aren’t true, but in the last 24 hours a seedy story centring on Celtic’s striker surfaced on social media, and while we cannot verify its truth or otherwise, the evidence is concerning.
What’s more concerning is the diabolical media silence on it, despite the press’s insistence of making every accusation and slur under the sun on Rangers men, whether or not they’re even remotely true.
The Griffiths story is… sinister, and, as per, we can only refer to it as alleged, but if you look hard enough you’ll find it.
But the uneven playing field for Rangers and Celtic is deeply exposed by this – when something happens around Alfredo Morelos, the press are quick to attack him, slate him, make him look the bad guy in whatever it is.
When Leigh Griffiths is alleged to have done something very bad, it’s either attributed to mental health issues, or ignored completely.
Now, we have defended Griffiths on a human level before, with supposed mental health problems, and the man has done nothing to us personally. So this certainly isn’t personal, even if the man has personal issues with Rangers.
No, the issue here is how the press protect him and not Morelos or countless other Rangers players to have been wholeheartedly slaughtered publicly without any concern to the impact such attacks have.
What are we saying? Leigh Griffiths may or may not have done something very bad indeed, but the press are worse for being complicit in supporting him but not Rangers.
We’re sure James Dornan will come out ready with an attack on the striker any moment now…
