As for the kids, goals in the second half by Tony Weston and Robbie Ure secured all three points in Gers’ new debut.

Speaking to RangersTV after the game, King said:

“When we entered the game we knew it would be difficult and we knew they would be direct, but I think the team handled it very well and when they tried to play with us we managed to match that as well. During halftime, we wanted to just calm down. We knew more opportunities would come, as they did eventually later in the game when we scored. Being patient is important. We will get affected and it is not reasonable to be frustrated. It is also going to affect the team.”

King feels the team can gain confidence from the clean sheet as they head straight to their next game against the Spartans on Tuesday afternoon.

Leon added:

“A clean sheet is important to be kept especially against the senior teams and if we continue like this for the rest of the season I am certain we will be fine. I just tried to help players who have not experienced this side of the men’s game, but I am learning myself, so I just try to make every game as it comes. It should be a good test on Tuesday obviously with a different surface, so we just have to make sure we are ready for it as we were today.”

Leon King began his career with the Glasgow Rangers. As a 15-year-old, King was part of the squad that won the Al Kass International Cup in Doha in 2019. With the U18 he also won the league title. In March 2020 he got a contract as a professional with the Rangers. King made his debut in 2020 in a 4-0 win against FC Falkirk in the League Cup for the Rangers. In May 2021 he made his debut in the Scottish Premiership in a 3-0 away win against Livingston FC when he was substituted on for Joe Aribo.

Leon King made his debut for the Scottish U16 national team in 2018. For this, he completed four games. From 2019 he was used in the U17.

And Rangers have hope he will be a future star for the club in the coming years.
