There’s been a lot of talk the past day about the Gerrard to Everton story. Ever since Ancelotti’s shock whirlwind departure to Real Madrid, the press have devised the Stevie to Goodison angle as another way to get hits.
Let’s be clear – while there are many printings of that pic of Stevie in an Everton shirt, he is NOT an Everton fan.
As a boy, by his own testimony, his family was both blue and red, and he was somewhere in the middle – but as he got older and joined Liverpool, that became absolutely his club.
And to this day, Everton are the enemy and rival.
Steven Gerrard is NOT becoming Everton manager – not just because he basically hates them, but because he’s been clear. The Liverpool job is his dream, not Everton, and not anyone else.
He’s one of us, and he loves the Rangers, but when the time comes, we will not be able to compete with the lure of Anfield and he’ll be off.
And that’s fine – but it will not be to Everton.
This was just lazy journalism linking him to a vacant seat.
The last person on earth who’d become Everton manager is Steven Gerrard.
