Rangers have been formally linked with a shock loan move for Billy Gilmour after Steven Gerrard was reported to be an admirer.

The 20-year old, heavily in demand, is subject to interest from Norwich, with Daniel Farke and Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel enjoying a strong past working relationship, making the Canaries favourites, but Rangers can offer CL football and that’s a big carrot.

It’s said any chance Rangers have of getting Gilmour next season rests on securing group stage of the CL, which is no given at this point of course, but it would be one hell of a boost to get the lad who completely lit up the Euros v England.

Norwich do have a head start, having initiated talks at this point, so they’ve stolen a march and of course can offer PL football weekly for Gilmour, but reports confirm there’s a glut of sides looking at the Scot so they have competition.

Long term, Stamform Bridge chiefs see Gilmour as a Chelsea player, allegedly, which is puzzling that they are letting him go out on loan despite clearly being ready for their first team, suggesting such speculation might not actually be true.

Either way, Rangers appear to be in the hunt, and Gilmour to Rangers would prove very popular at Ibrox indeed.

  1. I doubt if Tuchel would consider the SPL as a good place for Gilmour to learn his trade when he could be playing in the Premiership. Rangers yes, CL yes if we get there, but Livingston away I think not.
