Steve Clarke has got out the JCB and effectively confirmed Stephen O’Donnell will start against England by asking what on earth the diabolical right back ‘did wrong’ against the Czechs.

Let’s get straight to the quote:

“Analyse the game and tell me what Stephen did wrong? How many chances came off that side? Jakub Jankto, one of their most dangerous players, had a quiet game. Their left-back, a really good attacking left-back, Jan Boril, didn’t create a chance in the game. Analyse the game before we start killing players just because who they are and where they play.”

Where do we begin with this?

First off no one was more dangerous on the pitch than Jankto, aside Schick. Jankto managed more crosses in the match than anyone else, so we don’t quite know what Clarke is on about. He managed more crosses v Scotland than he did v Wales in the recent WC qualifier.

Secondly, Jan Boril isn’t a forward-thinking LB, he’s defensive, he didn’t manage any crosses or create any chances v Wales in the same match either. Because he normally doesn’t.

Clarke is making pathetic excuses which show an ignorance of both his opponents, and a blind loyalty to his pals in the squad.

He is going to stick with SoD and to hell with the consequences.

  1. A always new he was only there to make up the numbers that fat wanker will na gee him a game this championship and it doesn’t help that he hats rangers so why puck there players stick way they unwashed rats

  2. I agree with Robrob57 Southgate will play Grealish and Madison/Foden to bamboozle the Scottish set up exposing those who are not at the same level … O’Donnell etc. I feel sorry for those who are pretty good players like Robertson , Tierney McGinn .

  3. The job’s too big for Clarke. At home with the crowd behind you, you have to be offensive, and why he didn’t start with Patterson, Gilmour and Adams is bamboozling. Now he’s under huge pressure to get a result v England, when, if he’d been bolder and got 3pts in the bag, Fridays game could be treated differently. I honestly hope he plays SoD and he gets tied in knots by Sterling. Throwing the young guns under the bus and getting a hiding could scar these guys for life. No Celtic player should be in the squad as none of them have had a decent season, having to chase the mighty Glasgow Rangers.
