Rangers could be priced out of a move for Sheffield United’s wantaway midfielder John Lundstram after the competition emerged for his signature in the form of PL sides Burnley and Crystal Palace.
After United were relegated, it put fully paid to any notion of the Englishman remaining with the Blades, and as a free agent the 27-year old can command a bigger salary with anyone who covets him.
But Rangers just cannot compete with the wages clubs like Palace and Burnley can offer.
Rangers’ best-paid star is Alfredo Morelos on a reported wage of £33,000 a week.
Compare that with Palace’s top-paid player Wilfried Zaha at £130K. It’s a completely different league. In fact Palace’s lowest-paid stars are on what Morelos is, and the financial disparity here is patent.
Burnley are a bit more modest, with their best paid being around £50,000 but the bulk of their players are still well above £30K.
So Rangers have a job on their hands securing Lundstram, if indeed Steven Gerrard really is interested in the versatile midfielder.
We’ll see…
