Many Rangers fans could rattle off a list of the worst Steven Gerrard signings mainly by suggesting Umar Sadiq – but other failures include Sheyi Ojo, Bongani Zungu and the most bizarre signing at Ibrox in recent years in the form of Andy King.
But our pick is actually the absolute disaster of a choice from Motherwell of the abysmal Jake Hastie who we’d have to suggest is up there as one of the worst wingers we’ve seen in the Rangers shirt as an SPL side.
He has been completely forgotten by Stevie, understandably so, but more intriguingly we still can’t fathom why we wanted him.
We were interested to see his performance v us that fateful trip to Fir Park just before he did indeed sign, and we were deeply and worryingly underwhelmed.
David Turnbull stood out far more, and Hastie struggled badly to impress.
We recall saying afterwards that Turnbull was the one we should be going for, and Hastie should really be forgotten.
Instead we signed him, after a long battle with a tribunal over the cost, and it’s safe to say the-now 23-year old sunk completely.
Rangers were far too big for him, and he ended up shipped back to Motherwell, whose fans weren’t thrilled to have him back – and he’s been a tad poor there again.
He’s at an age now where he’s not a kid, and he should be, in theory, a bright rising star of the SPL with a move to a big club ahead of him.
Instead he’s a deeply mediocre winger who is probably peaking in his career managing to actually get starts for Motherwell.
We know he’s still our player, and once a Ranger always a Ranger and all that – but it doesn’t make a bad player good.
Even Stevie gave up on him.

Disagree Hastie is no world beater but by far and away the worst signing is Brandon Barker an injury prone dud who was shipped out to Oxford United on loan and has hardly set the world on fire and surprisingly (not) he was injured for about 4 weeks.
He will return to Rangers but in my opinion he has no future at Ibrox and should be shipped out permanently to anyone that is daft enough to take him.
I had my concerns about Hastie at the time after a fairly inauspicious loan period from Motherwell to Alloa. But at the time we signed him he appeared to be a very bright young prospect available for free and it wasn’t the daftest idea. It was also at a time when the overall level of player we had was a bit below where we are now. But he has no future at the club.
