Having signed Ryan Kent for £7.5M in 2019, Rangers clearly have budget in the past few years we didn’t for many.

Indeed, Steven Gerrard has signed quite a few £4M players, and many £3M – the point is the cash is there.

And with today’s story linking the manager with a massive Scottish record signing of £15M man Oli McBurnie, the story isn’t as stupid as it might seem.

Remember, despite many readers’ derision, we suggested Stevie would be spending the region of £30M this summer – a crucial number to remain ahead in the SPL and to be competitive in the massive level hike that the Champions League will present.

McBurnie is a player, and a very good one – whether he’s worth the £15M or not we couldn’t tell you, but if Stevie is after this guy for real, we sure aren’t getting him for buttons.

McBurnie, under contract till 2023, now finds himself the Championship and stories linking him with his boyhood team have rarely wavered.

He’d certainly run through walls for us and at just 24 he’s equally got his best years ahead of him.

In short, it’s a feasible signing.

The question is whether the board would sanction a price like that for a player of his talent. Best known as a centre-forward who will dominate defences. McBurnie is not seen as a huge goal-getter, but he can still certainly score and has done at every level he’s played at.

And he is the kind of player who will go up a level playing for his team (maybe Sir Kenny had a point?).

Time will tell if Rangers and Steven Gerrard reckon a massive transfer fee for McBurnie, if they do want him, is worth it.

  1. Give me a break. Maybe you missed the fact he scored ONE goal this season and a massive 6 the season before. Connor Goldson scored more this season than McBurnie has scored in the last 2. NO at any price.
