A remarkable stat or two have been dug up by Ibrox Noise’s Kevin with regards maybe Rangers’ most underrated player in Filip Helander.

The Swedish international, fresh from inclusion in the NT for the Euros, was in excellent form last season despite his injury issues, and a fresh number has emerged which gives some astonishing idea of just how good a stopper he is.

First off, since Steven Gerrard took office in 2018, Rangers have only been beaten by more than one goal four times:

Aberdeen, Celtic, Leverkusen and Praha.

The second staggering stat?

Helander didn’t feature in any of them!

Filip Helander, when playing for Rangers, has never lost a fixture by more than a single goal.

Signed in the summer of 2019, Helander admittedly wasn’t signed for the Aberdeen loss, but that’s the only one he wasn’t at Ibrox for. He was benched v Celtic, was unavailable v Leverkusen, and was benched again for the visit of Praha.

All of these matches conceded more than one goal in a loss.

It’s very telling the influence the Swede has had for this club at the back, and if Rangers can hold onto him, and keep him fit, he’s without a shadow of a doubt the best defender in our league.

But those are both big ifs….
