With Lille shocking PSG and France by lifting Ligue 1’s title, the Alfredo Morelos deal comes back into contention.

The new French champions will want full prep for the Champions League this season, and while a few of their strikers are certainly more than half decent, an absolute powerhouse up front who can score for fun remains pretty much on their agenda.

And they now have the cash to fund a £20M bid for Morelos which will certainly secure him, and Morelos finally gets the big move to a big league with a UCL side that he wants.

We all know Rangers will sell at least one major asset, and Morelos does seem a prime candidate – Lille as French champions definitely want one assured alpha striker up front – they have 21-year old Jonathan David and 35-year old Burak Yılmaz but a 24 year old would really appeal.

Of course there’s now a big catch – coach Christophe Gaultier has now quit after 4 years, and that may well change interest in Morelos, but equally signings are rarely made by the manager – he just endorses.

And now we’ll see if Lille come back in this summer and get their man.

It does seem kind of inevitable.
