Heerenveen captain Henk Veerman has confirmed Rangers are one of five clubs he expects Joey to join, among Atalanta, PSV, Ajax and AZ, with the Italian CL side and Rangers the front-runners given most observers anticipate him leaving the Netherlands.
Rangers have been linked to £6-£10M-rated Veerman for some time, and his captain and namesake expects him to head to pastures new outside of Holland.
The final sentence is certainly true, Veerman would be a fine signing for any Eredivisie side indeed, but he has bigger ambition now albeit both PSV and Ajax are CL contenders next season, with PSV arriving in the tournament at the same stage as Steven Gerrard’s men. Ajax are already into the group stage.
As for Rangers’ chances? He’s spoiled for choice – Rangers, Atalanta, Ajax and PSV are all impressive places to go, and all offer the CL – but only two guarantee group placement.
That said, Rangers do have a strong chance on this one, and he’s a player we’d really want to get a hold of.
We’ll see how it fares over the next while.
