Connor Goldson’s future is ever-so-slightly up in the air following a colossal silence over progress.

The stalwart defender, so outstanding this past season, was quoted by Steven Gerrard with what we have to admit was a concerning comment.

The manager said some weeks ago:

“Glen is someone who we are still trying and talking to to commit here because he is a big player for us. Connor Goldson is the same.”

Which is more than a spot lacking in conviction in truth.

We know fairly well that Glen Kamara is interesting sides down south, and we also know Goldson is now on their radar.

There are some claims about the reasons for Goldson’s holdup, but we understand the big stopper wants to keep his options open and may be interested in returning to England after 3 years north.

Bear in mind, Goldson is a lower PL-level defender and could easily find a new club closer to home, and while we gave him his career back, Goldson doesn’t exactly owe us anything anymore than we do him.

He has only ever been grateful, respectful and honourable in his time at Ibrox, and if Goldson was to decide his future lies south, we wouldn’t begrudge him that.

He will also net us big cash given how indispensable he was to 55 – he’s the most important player in Stevie’s team in so many ways.

But no one is irreplaceable.

Hopefully, though, the deal does get signed sooner rather than later.
