Jack Simpon will make his Old Firm debut, following a number of cameos thus far in his Rangers career.

Rangers are all out of CBs, with just Simpson, Connor Goldson and youngster Leon King available – a bizarre situation indeed for a club with 6 senior CBs on its payroll.

Meaning Simpson will start this one making his starting debut in the… well… it’s not really a cauldron is it, but certainly heightened pressure of an Old Firm.

We can’t really form any judgements on the ex-Bournemouth lad yet, but we do wish some of our fans would drop the patronising ‘young’ prefix they’ve given Simpson, purely because they barely know him.

Simpson 24, and while he’s one of Rangers younger stoppers, he’s definitely not a rookie in senior football.

As to whether he’s any good, well, like George Edmundson he was clearly signed as cover, as depth, and that very reason will see him start tomorrow.

It must also be remembered Simpson has almost 40 PL appearances so this is not some wide-eyed idiot we can’t trust.

Indeed, 99 appearances in senior football at SPL, PL and Championship level is a CV as good as any Rangers have, and while his partnership with Connor Goldson is a new era for us all, it’s not like he’s a kid about to make rookie errors.

We certainly look forward to seeing what kind of performance Jack Simpson will give on his first start for the Famous.
