Being honest, while Ibrox Noise’s MOTM went to Joe Aribo, Allan McGregor’s performance in goal today was quite simply stunning, but equally, it’s what we’ve come to expect from this world class goalkeeper whose 2021 has probably been the best four months of his entire career.
From that stupendous save from Leigh Griffiths, to that ridiculous one v Praha, to the staggering 3 incredible saves today including a penalty, McGregor is world class.
There can be no debate, no argument, no nothing about this.
The level of performance this 39-year old legend has put in in this calendar year is as good as any of the great goalkeepers – the Neuers, the De Geas, the Allisons – whoever the best are, McGregor is matching these and more, and he’s defying description.
Why did we give Aribo the MOTM? If we are to be fair, we could give Joe the outfield MOTM, because we loved his performance, but McGregor just transcends all boundaries.
Did anyone truly believe Edouard would actually score? Hand on heart, we did not. Because Greegsy was having that kind of match.
Now, there’s one thing we should add – McGregor has always saved his best for us – not Hull, not Scotland, but Rangers. He’s one of us and he becomes world class in our shirt only.
He just never hit these crazy heights for anyone else – great heights, yes, marvellous indeed, but not this world class place he’s at now.
We are so so grateful we have him at least one more season, because with him at the back Rangers are in more than safe hands.
And to think once upon a time some of our fans thought Wes was good enough…
