On a COMPLETELY different topic, a name forgotten in the annals of Rangers time is that of former and now current Hearts winger Jamie Walker.

Linked HEAVILY with a move to Rangers back in the day, the now-27 year old didn’t clinch his switch – regulars to Ibrox Noise will remember we must have covered that story for over a year. Perhaps more.

In the end, Rangers’ bid of £500K wasn’t enough, and Hearts refused to sell – until of course Wigan came in later on and bought him for £300K…

Walker’s time down south was pitiful – made only 9 appearances with just one assist before being loaned out to Peterborough, in the same division (League One) and couldn’t handle life there either.

He came back to Wigan, got freed, and returned to Tynecastle in 2019 and struggled in the SPL with 3 goals and an assist in 15 outings, before ‘thriving’ in the Championship with 7 goals 6 assists at the lower level.

Rangers simply refused to pay more than £500K for him, as Hearts worked their socks off to secure more than market value.

He was and is one of us – and it would have been nice to have him in the squad, but when we look at where we were when we bid for him, compared with where we are now, it’s a different stratosphere.

Walker would now struggle in our B team.

Still, good luck to him in his career.

  1. Another laddie that missed the boat because of Anti Rangers hatred. Walker, Allan , McLean to name a few sold for a loss rather to the Famous . I hope he does well, but yes you’re right he’d struggle to get a B team place .
