Over the past three weeks, Rangers have made three absolutely world class signings which can only enhance the case for 56.

First it was Steven Davis, who put pen to paper on a further year at Ibrox, before Allan McGregor followed suit and gave us another season of the best goalie Ibrox has seen in a generation.

Then yesterday Rangers made it a triple whammy with a 24-month extension for captain James Tavernier, whose existing deal was up in just over 12 months.

Now, we remember the distant past, when players would be rewarded for a spurt of good form with barely-deserved new deals – and their immediate form would suffer from that and the hunger would fade.

You just cannot see that happening with the three alpha stars Rangers have now tied down, in lieu of another assault at the title and 2IAR next season.

Davis, McGregor and Tavernier are basically Rangers’ three POTY candidates – Goldson, Arfield and one or two others are also in the mix, but those three are the absolute pinnacle of Rangers’ season this term.

And it’s simply fantastic to know two of them are continuing on, while Tavernier almost certainly is unless a colossal bid comes in. Indeed, his new deal just hiked his value up, and anyone trying to sign James Tavernier now will have to dig extra deep.

Yes, all three are near-certain to be Rangers’ main stormtroopers next season, injuries and suspension notwithstanding, and that’s a brilliant state of affairs to be in.

  1. Excellent business by Rangers. All three are superb professionals who are loved by the Famous and all true Rangers People . Both Davis and McGregor are True Blues . Tav is an adopted blue but his contribution to the cause has been exceptional and after a few shaky months he has grown his role . If a bid does come in for Tav that suits us and of course him then we will hate to lose him but I’m sure we won’t stand on his way .

  2. Announce Goldson and Kamara now Mr Rangers, even if we plan on selling them, it’s important to hike their value by tying them down.
