Steven Gerrard has suddenly got something of a selection crisis going into the final Old Firm of the season on Sunday, with a pile of players unavailable.

Long term injuries Niko Katic and Ryan Jack of course remain on the sidelines, but have been joined by Filip Helander who had to come off on Sunday, while Scott Arfield is touch and go at best. Leon Balogun is out for the season.

Meanwhile, the Covid 3 of Nathan Patterson, Bongani Zungu and Calvin Bassey are also obviously not at Stevie’s disposal leaving him with a lot less options and possibly the worst health his squad has been in for a very long time.

Mercifully it’s not the business end of the season, with all ‘transactions’ complete, and there’s little to play for besides pride and that unbeaten league record plus the 100% home league record.

But it does mean defence literally has just 4 men in total with Tavernier, Goldson, Simpson and Barisic the only options and nothing on the bench aside Leon King.

Midfield too is a bit tricky – only Davis and Kamara are actually available, alongside Joe Aribo, while up front is a lot more healthy as Kent, Morelos, Roofe, Itten, Stewart, Defoe, Wright and Hagi are all options.

But that midfield and defence is very thin indeed and one or two returns before the weekend would be very welcome!

  1. Hopefully Helander will make it . Simpson has potential so an OF game might be a good opportunity to give him a go a higher level. We should have recalled Edmundson perhaps.
