Yesterday was abuzz with the latest on Fashion Sakala, after the Zambia international started following a glut of Rangers players on social media.
In truth, this is usually 99% certainty that a move is imminent, or at least that one is strongly in the works, and it does look like the Oostende forward is on his way to Ibrox next season.
Aged 24, Sakala is NOT a Morelos replacement – if anything he’s most like Kemar Roofe – just 5ft 10, the Zambian is all about pace, movement and trickery, and even his goal stats in Belgium this season mirror Rangers’ current utility forward.
Sakala fits the mould of the kind of attackers Steven Gerrard likes – quick, dynamic, technically skilful, medium build/height and adaptable. Most importantly adaptable.
Yes, Sakala isn’t a winger or a striker pure, but drifts a lot between the channels and can work all three routes in the forward trident, making him versatile and useful.
As we say, very much akin to Kemar Roofe, but with a delightful touch of Jermain Defoe in there too as his movement off the ball is outstanding – he’s the kind of attacker defenders hate, the one who reads the backline and completely bewitches CBs with superb timing and understanding of position.
There’s no denying Sakala is a talent, and if this deal goes through he’s another good addition to Rangers’ forward options.
But we really do need to work on that defence and the midfield as well…
