Rangers striker to return to ex-club – reports
He hasn't been in favour at all.....

Rumours have come out Switzerland that out-of-favour striker Cedric Itten is to return to St Gallen on loan this summer.

The 24-year old, who has completely lost his place with the NT over the past season, is said to now be completely frustrated with his lack of playing time, and holds the ignominious honour of being the SPL’s most used substitute this season.

His record for the season is, admittedly, poor – despite a brief flurry of goals some months ago, Itten has just 6 in 34 Rangers appearances overall, but that must be measured up against his playing time which is a grand total of just over 1000 minutes based on 8 starts and 26 cameos.

For whatever reason it hasn’t quite happened for Itten at Ibrox, with manager Steven Gerrard electing to stick with Alfredo Morelos as main striker with Kemar Roofe also being deployed in that position now and then when the Colombian was indisposed.

The Swiss striker must have been particularly gutted when 38-year old Jermain Defoe was preferred v Cove Rangers at the weekend, with Itten only getting a 27-minute cameo when the game was won.

But there is clearly something there with the hitman – he’s scored some excellent goals, but Steven Gerrard hasn’t seen fit to rotate him into the starting XI much.

And now the claims are he’s to return to his former team on loan to get minutes.

It comes too late for Euro 2020 – Itten will do well to get picked for his NT’s adventures at the Euros, but he will certainly be looking to next season no matter what.

  1. 6 goals in what equates to 11 full games plus change on the pitch is fairly decent. 1/2 goals for someone in their 1st season being used primarily as a sub, that’s not bad. How many assists does he have?

  2. He’s not the worst but even if Morelos and Defoe were to leave I think we would buy another striker and he would remain a squad player. Not his fault or ours it’s just the way it is and I’ll hold no grudge if that’s not good enough for him.
