Three years into Steven Gerrard’s increasingly glorious tenure at Ibrox and if one thing has never changed since that May of 2018, it’s that Rangers still do not have one really good and convincing option on the right wing.
We’ve been buried alive under left wingers over the years – Kent, Jones, Ojo, Barker, Murphy, the list is actually endless.
But on the right?
No one. Not a single option on the right wing, bar Daniel Candeias (who just wasn’t quite good enough and didn’t want to stay anyway) and utility man Kemar Roofe who plays anywhere along the front three – and sure isn’t a permanent solution on the right.
No, there’s no Kent for the opposite flank, and this brings our attention to Andreas Skov Olsen, who has been heavily linked to Rangers in the past, during his first season in Serie A with Bologna.
The winger, 21, hasn’t lit Italy up the way he did his homeland with FC Nordsjælland, nailing 19 goals in 26 outings back home, and a career 54 assists in 126 outings.
Indeed, his numbers for Fil Helander’s ex-side have been modest – just 3 goals in 43 and two assists.
His market value is around £6M but his record for his country (yes, he’s fully capped) is very bright – 4 assists, 3 goals in 5 caps. Impressive for his age.
He clearly doesn’t suit Italy, and his name has been forever linked to Rangers. With no proper serious RW in the side, could a big signing this summer be possible? With just 7 starts in Bologna this season, and a campaign derailed by an injury, he might be tempted into a switch. He had just 7 last season too, so he’s not one Bologna covet.
But Rangers could.
Maybe worth the investment?
Literally know nothing about the lad but if he’s an out an out winger it’s probably not on the cards. The build is moving away from natural wingers to left and right 10s which is why we’ve managed to get so much out of Hagi this season. Even Kent has transitioned from a winger to a 10, so unless the plan is to mould a winger rather than buy ready made right 10, I just don’t see us targeting such players…but then I wasn’t enamored with the signing of Wright and it looks like I’m gonna be helluva wrong on that one, so regardless…In Stevie I trust!
Agree Broxi and I certainly wouldn’t want to spend anywhere near £6m on a player who appears to have failed in Serie A. Loan to buy? Maybe. And I’m also excited about what I’m seeing in Scott Wright. He looks to me like a clever, talented player like Greg Stewart but with lightning pace.
