Media in Holland claim Rangers have made an offer for Netherlands U21 international defender Danilho Doekhi with the 22-year old Vitesse stopper in demand at present.

While Daniel Farke’s Norwich are said to be interested, Rangers’ offer puts Steven Gerrard’s side at the front of the queue for the Arnhem regular, who has an excellent 28 Eredivisie outings this campaign.

A graduate of the Exelsior Academy, Doekhi has spent three impressive seasons in Holland’s top flight with Vitesse, having previously plied his trade in the youth setup at Ajax moving on from Rotterdam, so he’s had about as good a football education as it’s possible to get in the present game.

But more tellingly is what this offer would entail for Rangers’ existing 6 defenders.

Connor Goldson is yet to put pet to paper, but inevitably will, while Filip Helander is still interesting PL sides. Meanwhile Niko Katic’s return is up in the air, as is his position at the club, where Jack Simpson remains an unknown quantity. Lastly George Edmundson appears to have no future with Rangers and Leon Balogun has undeniable fitness problems.

So it’s clear Steven Gerrard wants to bring in some reliable and promising talent for the defence, and given Doekhi’s CV, he’s reportedly catching the manager’s eye.

He’s a contract, with one year left, and his value while said to be around £3M could be a lot less given his current status.

  1. If they think he’s good enough with growth potential then yes good business. Van Dyke was U21 Captain when the rotten mob signed him . Good business of we can get it done .
