Rangers make a world class signing
Another year for McGregor....

Today’s confirmation that Allan McGregor will be with us for at least one more season after this is the news we wanted.

The goalie’s silence over a new deal had prompted some suggestions of potential retirement, but not a bit of it.

He may be approaching 40 now, but Allan McGregor has had a truly superb season.

True, up till this calendar year, he wasn’t needed a dreadful amount, but he was still impressive; it’s what he’s done since the turn of the year that has shown he’s as good as he always was, if not better.

And of course that save v Praha goes down as one of the greatest we’ve ever seen.

For McGregor, it was a no brainer, but his one question was could his body and performances handle it – hence the whispers of retirement.

But Greegsy poo-poohed that and decided he’s absolutely fine, and can carry on.

Frankly there’s pretty much no better goalkeeper in world football readily available to Rangers – McGregor is bordering on world class (in our definition anyway) and those goalies don’t grow on trees.

We have a stopper this good because he’s one of us, and was happy to come home when the chance arose. If he wasn’t a Bear himself, he almost certainly wouldn’t be at Ibrox – because he’s easily PL level.

But he wants to be here, to be home, and as we said before, goals is very much settled with McGregor and likely McLaughlin as backup, plus Robby McCrorie.

Let’s not kid on – CL is a major reason he’s extended, and he said it himself – ‘at his age’ getting to play in the CL is a major carrot, and a major reason he’s signed up for another year.

Whatever the reasons? We’re just glad he’s still between our sticks.
