Rangers have been linked with monitoring Ligue 1 cracks’ Dijon’s 26-year old CB Senou Coulibaly.

The giant 6ft 4 defender is one of the biggest stoppers in the French top flight, and is said to be attracting interest around Europe for his standout performances with bottom side Les hiboux, which means the Owls.

Contracted till 2023, this wouldn’t be a Bosman, but his market value is currently only at around £1M and he doesn’t have any caps for his country, Mali.

With three seasons of Ligue 1 under his belt Coulibaly certainly doesn’t lack experience in France’s top flight, but it is very interesting Rangers have ‘registered an interest’ in him given the number of CBs currently at Ibrox, which currently totals 6, including those on loan.

Signing this guy would certainly indicate not all current defenders are expected to be at Ibrox next season, possibly hinting doubts at the immediate to medium Rangers futures of Helander, Katic and Edmundson.

Furthermore there was a defensive ‘twist’ today which could also provoke an interest in such a new signing in this area.

We’ll see if Stevie’s interest in this lad is for real.
