Following every rat deserting Celtic’s sinking ship, their fans have been hoodwinked again by the board after Eddie Howe turned down their ‘lucrative’ offer.

Why, on a Rangers page, are we talking about Celtic, we hear you ask?

Because we so rarely do, that we wanted to indulge ourselves a little giggle.

In short, Celtic’s board knew from the start Howe wouldn’t join them, not at the price they were offering – but by initiating talks with the former Bournemouth manager, they could tell their fans who they were in for, then pretend he rejected them despite their lavish offer.

In reality, they lowballed him and will end up with someone worse than Neil Lennon.

Not that it really matters who they get, it’s all about the Rangers, and Stevie G has his men on the crest of a permanent wave right now – only hatchet racists Slavia Praha could stop the men in blue and long may it continue.

But we can afford ourselves a little giggle to the east – watching the latest mayhem unfold and finding the shoe firmly on the other foot.

They are now the Barrier Years, the Banner Years, with the Banter Years well and truly finished, and no Rangers fan should be so up ourselves that we can’t look and laugh every so often.

That’s the point of a rivalry, of course.

Bring on Hibs at the weekend, and bring on the Celtic when they come along too…
