Without an ‘we told you so’, when we mentioned Jesse Lingard in relation to a move to Rangers (it was a strong rumour at the time) we extolled his virtues and said it was a hell of a move if we could pull it off.

You didn’t agree.

The overwhelming, and we have to say extraordinarily overwhelming feedback we got slated the lad, calling him a primadonna, a no-talent waster and overpaid.

We’d say his season in London demonstrates he’s none of these things, and was simply dumped by a manager at Man Utd who didn’t take to him, while his spell under David Moyes has shown his talent and quality for what it is.

Of course, getting him would have been nigh-on impossible, his wages far too high – but the link was there so we brought it to you.

But many of you lot appear to know better and told us, and indeed Stevie if he was indeed genuinely interested, that we were all wrong and this lad was a complete shyster, an egotist more interested in fashion than football.

As time has told, this was a very incorrect view to take.

Lingard to Rangers would have been a seismic move, earth-shattering given his talent – he’d have been idolised at Ibrox and while it’s all worked out for us in Govan without him anyway, anyone who think Lingard can’t play, and vomited at the idea of Rangers signing him…

We’re just glad you ain’t the boss!
