Following Rangers’ effective title win today, Steven Gerrard dropped the biggest hint yet that he’s going nowhere, possibly not even to Liverpool, any time soon.
Following an excellent afternoon’s work against a thrifty St Mirren, Gerrard spoke publicly for the first time about his future – and it was good news for Rangers and our fans.
The manager has been long-linked with various jobs down south, never more than recently, given his colossal achievement of the league title, but he revealed he’s ‘hungry for more’ at Ibrox and hopes the players are too.
If anything else screamed ‘I’m staying’ louder than this, we’d love to hear it.
Indeed, Gerrard has written himself into legend at Ibrox – overcoming a juggernaut Celtic on a fraction of the budget in just two and a half years, the Anfield legend is now the Ibrox legend too, and his desire to remain and secure more silverware and fight on more fronts is going to be music to fans’ ears.
Potentially tomorrow afternoon the final confirmation will happen, if Celtic fail to win at Tannadice, and Rangers will crowned champions.
But the bonus of Gerrard’s commitment to remaining in Govan for quite a while could well be, on some levels, as big a prize as the title itself.
Wonderful news.
Steven Gerrard. Liverpool Legend, Rangers GOD.
