Steven Gerrard has allowed himself a barely-concealed dig at Celtic after highlighting St Mirren’s win at Parkhead recently.
Speaking at the pre-St Mirren presser, Rangers’ boss admitted he’s eager to sow the title up now, but doesn’t believe The Buddies will be a walkover in getting there, especially given they beat us in the cup earlier this season.
But it was his little chip at Celtic that we had to giggle at:
Gerrard didn’t even consider Celtic worth mentioning by name, they are now just such an irrelevance in Scottish football and the top flight – but he couldn’t resist highlighting just exactly how unimportant they are, by referring to the Saints’ win ‘in Glasgow’ recently.
Indeed, Rangers will be crowned champions this weekend if Celtic don’t win at Tannadice and Rangers take all 3 points at Ibrox, but the fact the title could be mathematically won before we’re even a third of the way into March is not just a complete humiliation for Celtic, but gives some idea of how astonishing Rangers’ campaign has been.
And it could all be over this Sunday.
