There’s something different in 2021. Not just that Rangers won 55 at last, not just that we’re coming slowly out of this pandemic and not just that Celtic have capitulated.

No, this year is the year, for the first time really since world cup 2010, that Rangers will have a glut of players at the Euros, and that is only going to absolutely hike their values, assuming they play well.

Filip Helander, Borna Barisic, Glen Kamara, Cedric Itten, and Steven Davis, to name just five, will be plying their trades for their countries this summer, and while that’s kind of irrelevant in terms of Davis’ value, for Helander, Barisic, Itten and Kamara, it could see their market value soar massively, especially in lieu of potential sales this transfer window.

It’s been expected that Rangers will make at least one major sale this summer, and the club will want the best value possible in every case.

Euro 2020 is the chance for these players to get a move to a big league, and while they’ll miss out on CL in most cases, and move to smaller clubs, the PL especially is the Promised Land.

Values? Helander has a value of around £10M, Kamara is about £15M, Barisic could fetch into £20M, while Itten probably isn’t going to move on, although he might.

There is also Alfredo Morelos, who’s been aching for his move for seasons. This summer is destined to be that for him, as long as the bid is around £20M or more. But of course he can’t use the Euros for that.

End of the day, Rangers are a selling club and we are due to make a big sale on at least one asset fairly soon.

Here’s hoping it really is a big chunk of cash for whoever it is.

  1. While it may be painful to see one of our heroes leave it has to happen. As a club we need to make the big money from sales to continue to bring other players into the team to help us develop and move forward. As long as we get the correct value and I’m sure we will.
